I'm annoyed about something that an acquaintance posted on facebook and I'm curious what you all think. He posted a youtube video of a rap group he likes and pointed out that these people "actually" grew up on the streets they rap about. (Unlike a group of other specific rappers he mentioned who grew up more privileged, e.g., in the suburbs).

This guy is white (as am I) and I just want to ask him why he thinks a group of (black) rappers can only be authentic if they grew up poor and "in the hood." But I don't want to start shit...

Is my annoyance legitimate?!
